Remodeling Statement Pieces: Possible Statement Piece Ideas

For those completing any kind of significant remodel to any major area of their home, the use of what are known as statement pieces is often a top consideration. Statement pieces are the kind that stand out and elevate your space from a visual and aesthetic standpoint, and there are a variety of different options you might consider if you're going this route.

At Pine Tree Construction, we're happy to assist clients throughout Utah with all their home remodeling needs, including the selection and installation of statement pieces if you'd like them to define many of your spaces. In this two-part blog series, we'll go over everything to know about statement pieces -- part one will cover some of the most common items often chosen as statement pieces, while part two will look into some of the top themes and concepts to keep in mind as you're selecting yours.

Fireplace

Perhaps the single most common form of statement piece, at least in non-kitchen/bathroom parts of the home, is the fireplace. In the context of a home's design, particularly if it's rustic or modern, a fireplace can be absolutely invaluable as a statement piece.

There are a few important fireplace considerations to make if you're going this route, from the fuel source you're using (gas, electric, wood?) to the style and design of the fireplace itself. It is wise to consider these things ahead of time in order to ensure you can actually make use of your statement piece when it's installed, and not simply leave it as an oversized visual element in your space.

Light Fixtures

Another good option for your statement piece is lighting. There's a number of different types to consider, but the key is to find something that will stand out and create an aesthetic impact you want -- even if it doesn't fit with your home's current decorating scheme (this is where statement pieces tend to excel).

There are numerous lighting types available today, from lanterns and LED strips to tiffany-style fixtures and other types. Do your research on what's available, and consider the atmosphere you'd like to create in your statement piece.

Sofa

For many living rooms or similar spaces, the sofa is the centerpiece and focal point of any design, and can serve as a statement piece as well. Consider both the style of the sofa and how it will be used in your living space.

For example, you might opt for a modern sofa with very sleek lines and elegant curves, but if this is the only seating in the room it could create issues where there's not enough places to sit. This may be fine for limited occasions -- say, movie night or hosting an event -- but long-term this could become a problem. Consider the best use of your statement piece sofa, and how it can fit into various activities in your home.

To be clear, the above are just a few examples of possible statement pieces. There are numerous other options, from curtains and drapes to range hoods (for kitchens), freestanding bathtubs (for bathrooms) and more. In part two of our series, we'll go over some tips on how to select the ideal statement pieces.
